Night (2)
        Du Fu 712-770

Over sheer banks
        the wind's might moves,
In my chill room
        candle shadows shiver.
An alpine gibbon
        lodges beyond the frost,
A river bird
        flies deep into night.
I sit alone
        draw near my heroic sword,
I sind sadly
        sigh for my short robe.
Smoke and dust
        whirl about Heavenly Gate,
A white beard
        betrays my stalwart heart.
